I feel like it's time to address the elephant in the room. A lot of users have left, and the 'boo has lost much of its activity. The decline has been sharp, we went from an average of 70 unique users (the peak being 98 right before the announcement of the 'foo's end of operations) to 40 or fewer in the span of a month. That decline is also visible in the quality and frequency of posts: too many overly horny posts, too few drawthreads and events, and no activity in the site's drawpile.

Honestly, I don't think anyone's at fault for this. It seems like a natural development. Maybe it's a structural issue with the imageboard format. Maybe things just got boring and people moved on - the fate of the previous owner and his site being a good example - it's hard to say for sure.

Frankly, I don't think there's a solution to this. Banning people and deleting posts isn't the answer, and neither is changing the site's structure/format or shifting the theme entirely. None of that will stop people from leaving, stop the remaining users from losing enthusiasm, or stop the content from becoming more repetitive. If anything, taking such harsh actions would only make things worse.

It just seems like nature is taking its course. Times are changing, and the imageboard as a format is becoming a thing of the past. Perhaps the most honest and self-aware thing to do is just let it go.

I'd like to hear our fellow booleans weigh in on this.

I’d say change with the times and change format but that’s asking for a lot.
Imageboards are dead because the Internet is dead and 99% of people are dopamine addicted retarded goblins who sit around gooning in Discovery Channel all day and the image board format doens't move fast enough for their ADHD addled brains, plus the general fuckery of bad actors which is why imageboards are dying.

It's a sad state of affairs and the Internet gets gayer by the hour.

It’s a simple fact that there isn’t a single imageboard not dying in users. In fact I think everything social outside of social media and porn sites has lost blood. I’d think reinventing the wheel of how imageboards work but that doesn’t address the fundamental problem people don’t show up.

Yeah I kind of feel that way since I keep seeing horny posting threads popping up and the occasional bait threads. I'm mostly popping by to see and post in the art thread and /AFGDG/ to see what's up. It's sad to see on a slowdown on imageboard like this one.
> It just seems like nature is taking its course. Times are changing, and the imageboard as a format is becoming a thing of the past.
I want to disagree with this sentence since I've been hanging around imageboards for quite sometime. Again this happens alot to alt-chans, just be glad you're not dealing with the worse I had to witness. (I've seen some shit dude, Trust me, I've fluffing seen some SHIT!)
>Perhaps the most honest and self-aware thing to do is just let it go.
I absolutely refuse to use any social media or furry community site since I like it here dammit.
>It’s a simple fact that there isn’t a single imageboard not dying in users. In fact I think everything social outside of social media and porn sites has lost blood.
Yea this is pretty much what kills it. Imageboards like the boo on here are more niche since the users here (well usually) tend to stay on topic for whatever they're discussing.
>>120089 (OP)
I should be clear that the issue is not with PPH (Post per hour) rates. It's generally not a good indicator of healthy activity and it just doesn't really matter much.

idk. The site seems fine to me, a little slower maybe but otherwise it feels more or less the same, bar the increasingly pornographic images (not that I personally even care ev&o I join in the mock outrage). This place is like a small town. Things will move slowly. That's just how it is, I think. Creative projects and efforteralds take time, after all. You could maybe stimulate it by injecting new users but you also run the risk of enshittifying it if rules & guidelines aren't enforced, I think. idk. im retar. Basically, I don't think anything's necessary. Just keep it up for me ok frogge??

Idk maybe a subreddit with a browser extension that encodes stuff like slurs? Maybe some sort of booru? There isn’t really a clear cut where you can both preserve the community and allow for growth.

Mainstream social media has been annihilating smaller cyber spaces like ours. People are being increasingly assimilated into what's essentially a system of mass surveilance, any semblance of anonymity and freedom of speech is thrown out the window. Mountains of data are mined for third party advertisers and government agencies.
It's sad. Though caca like Twitter, Youtube and Instagram herds a lot of traffic, i feel Reddit specifically has been the biggest culprit in scooping up the remaining traffic that would otherwise go to smaller forums and imageboards.

Smaller sites will have less engagement because the vast majority of people have been conditioned to think of themselves as a depersonalized consumer while spaces such as these require some form of personal identity that is not necessarily just defined by what you consume on the platform itself.
Also, if you are active on any non-mainstream site but don't merely lurk, there is usually some level of engagement expected or required of you, while no such thing exists in the mainstream.

It does feel kind of slower than before but the site was never really a torrent of activity. Imo that is fine as long as it exists and posters get to find each other and chat at their own pace.
Would not expect a change of format to affect the activity much. Sure, platforms like 'cord cater to the current audience more, innudating them with pings, pops and boops from a hundred chats, but the core of this website's users probably have the same reservations against those.

Online social interactions being funneled into a handful of proprietary closed platforms owned by shady people whose #1 job is continuously multiply the shareholders' value is generally an unhealthy trend.
This place goes against it and that already merits it existing. Whether there are 70 members present or 40 does not change that.

>>120113
Yeah, precisely. This only furthers the notion of how important it is for a place such as this one to exist, to serve as an alternative.

On the topic of activity levels, the options seem to be:
a) Let things sort themselves organically, come what come may.
Almost all altchans have what people often consider to be low activity, that should not be a surprise. Even 4chan's trends aren't positive.
That said, there is no ISO standard on what PPH or user count should be. It may go up, it may go down, it may fluctuate based on the season, the holidays, the phase of the moon, the gas prices, whatever. Just bee yourself and keep lurking or, better yet, posting.

b) Encourage more activity from among the existing userbase: come up with events of sorts, possibly on schedule; draw-a-thons are a good example )though anecdotally I never partook because it felt like a commitment and there was never free time. Also commending one poster but not the other for the work would've felt unfair and commenting under every work would take a ton of time; hopefully others fare better. As a sidenote, the one mechanic possibly worth adopting from social media is a way to react to post without typing in a response, i.e. emojis/reactions. A simple way to signal to a poster that their post evoked something in the readers. Good luck actually coding it and then preventing it being gamed in some way though.)
Maintaining or increasing the activity is a communal effort. Yeah we are lazy, at times we have no energy or ideas of our own, but let's support those who do, when they do.

c) Consider being more open to the concept of inviting more new blood; be it through suggesting that existing users invite their buddies or something more organized/systematic. Let us ask ourselves: *how did the current core users discover the board?* We didn't just spawn here coalescing out of aether. Can we do more of that?

x)This point isn't something one can just will into existence, nor it is something that can be asked of a person but is something to consider: communities this size are often held afloat by a single entertainer (of a handful of). Just someone who isn't only passionate about the community or whatever the community happens to revolve around, but also has the time and energy for it (that's really all it takes, charisma is barely tertiary in the formula for success here).

Also worth bearing in mind that as someone else aptly put in another thread a month or so back, anthros alone aren't enough to warrant an entire board (though there's definitely plenty of avenues of discussions there, e.g. the individual species threads). They are more of a flavor and a spin that we can put on other topics. Art, music, hobbies, pets, travel and so forth.
Reposting art from xitter is also beneficial for sure; not every one visits social media, or has the time to sift through the feed, memorize artists' names or discover new ones themselves.
Doesn't have to even be explicitly relevant either. E.g. those posts by an anon who did a daytrip to SF and posted photos are technically off-topic but give the place a bit more character. Behind every post there is a person, and knowing how soulless mainstream social media are, getting users to share their accomplishments, worries, memories with likeminded individuals on a platform that won't have them slid off the screen in a neverending stream of status updates from 3298744 faceberg 'furriends' is probably a good idea. Basically /dailylogging/ could use more attention and could serve as a handy teambuilding (please excuse the corpospeak) thread.
Stopping here before the rambling gets any more incoherent.
Replies: >>120154
First off, drawgiraffes are FUCKING scum. They are always disingenuous giraffegots who are only active in imageboards so they can advertise their social media. The moment any of them ever gain a following on any of the hundreds social media accounts they have, they completely abandon whatever imageboard they used to post their art on. It's the natural evolution for these attention whoring freaks.
For activity. I think a big problem is that this site is losing its uniqueness. I don't think people shouldn't be allowed to hornypost, but when half of the catalog is hornyposting about whichever anthro people want to have sex with, it's kinda hard to distinguish this site between some other furry community, and then this site being SFW hampers that aspect too, if I'm horny why would I use a SFW site?
You can say "furry imageboard" and the community make this place unique, but when the content isn't really unique they're a hard sell.

But the art thread has been very dead lately, people don't talk much in it anymore
On the previous site, every art post could get at least 3 well written replies
Now if you look in the art thread, half the drawings in it have 0 replies
It makes it feel less like we are sharing art, and more like we are just dumping images into the void, when nobody is interacting with anyone in that thread

>>120089 (OP)
honestly the site is fine. some drop in activity is okay, because you still have a very high ratio of artists to posters, compared to say, somewhere like twitter or a /trash/ general. they are the lifeblood of this place; keep them around, and the site will remain healthy.
doing something drastic like changing away from the imageboard format would be foolish. the low barrier to entry (no account needed, dont have to give up your phone number, anon posting, etc) is great for attracting new users, as long as they're aware of the site's existence. adding more boards would also be a mistake, IMO. the site's too small for more than a single board (/b/ doesnt count), and you'd be splitting traffic while adding friction to the new user experience
>too many overly horny posts
inevitable when you're dealing with the furry community. i think it's a balancing act, clamp down on horny stuff too much and you run the risk of making the site too puritan to be fun to post on, while letting it go rampant will turn this into /trash/ but slower. i think it's fine as is, but giving artists more leeway to post their (original) risque content couldnt hurt
>too few drawthreads and events, and no activity in the site's drawpile
that's kinda on you, no offense. i think the magma is dead rn because it's poorly advertised. the only thing permanently advertising it are a single link at the bottom of the sticky (that nobody looks at) and the banner thing that everyone also ignores. sticky the thread announcing it, get the dude running the 'boo twitter to advertise it, etc.
i'd love if the 'boo hosted regular game nights, drawing events, etc, but what there is right now is irregular at best. the drawathons, when they do happen, demand way too much time for most people to participate, since putting out a finished drawing every single day for a week is quite difficult.
run long form creative events, like a zine or competition; take advantage of the fact that this place has no entry requirements, and advertise events both here and on twitter, and im sure you'll get more activity
>>120154
the twitter kinda sucks at advertising this place. sure, retweeting artists is good and all, but turning that into the entire timeline drowns out any mentions of the 'boo. it doesnt make any effort to direct users to the site in any meaningful way, such as by advertising the magma
If the quality is the problem I suppose you could have stuff like the twerkposter and /pol/Nigveri quarantined to /b/.

Seems like a cyclical sort-of thing. You're going to naturally run out of things to talk about on a Funny Animals forum if you're a daily user for months on end. Even big image boards like the Sharty or 4chan (when it was relevant a decade ago) go through similar cycles.

I just look for new websites i am not banned from to post about the JQ.

Reddit and Bsky will scorched earth you if you discuss the JQ at all. All redpilled subreddits are just ban on sight now essentially. Reddit is where I was redpilled on the JQ, before r/AgainstHateSubreddits (ran by roof ratish clownfish who also were the mods of r/cuckold and r/blacked unironically) got all of them banned, and u/Spez took control, who is a roof rat.

A relic from back when Reddit wasn't totally pozzed, documenting the banwave:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wqx4wdn4Odc

>Denying reality and banning the circulation of it's evidence

roof rats in a nutshell

4cuck has a unique process for banning the JQ that makes its users think it isn't as censorious as it actually is. It doesn't let you discuss it outside of /pol/ and will hit you with an all boards ban for racism, but in /pol/ discussing the JQ is futile because there are so many bots and shills constantly sliding effortposts into the archive with low quality threads or bait. Pretty much the only way to get a JQ thread on the front page is to astroturf it which results in the jannies Rangebanning you.

Xitter and Instagram allow discussion of the JQ, but they also hand all your personal and posting data to AUTH10TIX, a data security company owned by Mossad, and almost certainly Palantir. It's definitely setting up for some kind of AI based persecution system of people aware of the JQ down the line

Jews use search engine crawlers to find when they're being mentioned in online discussions. When keywords relating to Jews or Israel are mentioned online, a mechanism tags the thread and website address where the crawlers found the keywords, and sends it to a central server. The central server then ranks the thread by it's level of importance and sends it to volunteer groups within the Jewish diaspora, likely Discovery Channel servers, a shared office space or something similar. Those volunteer groups then astroturf and attack the thread depending on it's level of severity and the culture of the forum.

This isn't a conspiracy theory, it's been exposed numerous times by groups like If Americans Knew as well as Al Jazeera's journalist team in their "Israel Lobby USA" documentary. We have Jews on camera discussing these systems for monitoring online and campus discussion about them and Israel.

This is why you can mention the JQ on an obscure Finnish forum and still get a sudden influx of post activity agitating to get you banned, demonise you to the rest of the forums and personal attacking you, by posters who essentially didn't exist in the community prior to mentioning the JQ. Jews will adapt the culture of the forum in order to remove discussion about them, and if that fails they'll begin threatening the site owner.

>This is why the Jew MUST control our communications; this is why he MUST control our education; this is why he MUST control our government; and most important, this is why he MUST control our religion. If he fails to do this, in any area, he endangers his continued existence as a biological parasite.

>everything I like is dying all of a sudden.
At least in part this is just the natural course of things, times change. We used to have malls and mall rats, children playing outside unsupervised, social networks were less pervasive, forums were active, information was shared in the open instead of being confined to ecosystems created by major corporations. Old neighborhoods being slowly demolished to make room for whatever the current building trend is.
We lost most of that but gained something else in return, like the funny ai cat videos and affordable solar energy.
Imageboards are like rocks in the path of a stream of the current thing is.
This too shall pass.
> i can't even prevent it,
Partaking in the art thread is a worthy contribution to keeping this place going.

The way I see it, disсоrd and r*ddit (possibly xitter too?) are siphoning the userbases from imageboards by offering bells and whistles, webapps, better mobile integration, easier tracking of (You)s for that dopamine etc at a faster pace too, to please the adhd crowd — in exchange for privacy. Some users are literally asked to submit their government issued IDs to access certain channels, that is vile.

Don't let it bring you down though, that's what they want.

Can't trust the link click numbers, most people who visit the site would see "anthro.boo" in an image and type it into their searchbar. That's how I found the 'foo, and the periodic xitter posts remind me to check in on this site.
Like right now! I had been preoccupied for a while and a xitter post reminded me to browse again now that I have some more free time.

Drawgiraffes are fine. Posters come and posters go, no use complaining about it.
In my experience, the artists I see always come back to the imageboards. They're here forever just like the rest of us.
