6. Attempting to manipulate the Community Favorite vote is not allowed

Submission Requirements
Each entry must include the following:
1. Main redesign image

Please be sure to add my Steam account if you win so I can pay you. You'll also need to prove your identity to ensure the correct individuals get their reward. You can do so by either leaving your Steam account name and furriend code in your entry or by sending me a picture of your work in whatever program or workspace you used. My Steam furriend code is below:
290255190

Good luck to all who decide to participate, I await your entries

Below is the character information you are provided with

Overview
Legal Name: Isabelle Chang
Age: 26
Place of Birth: Baltimore, Maryland
Species: Rat (Opossum?)

History
Xandra is a second generation immigrant hailing from a wealthy family. A shy, intelligent, and misunderstood girl, she was gifted with a knack for mechanical and electrical engineering as well as computer science. She desired most to be unique and express herself, rebelling against the perceived rigidity of her familial structure. In middle school, she would change her name from Isabelle to Xandra in an effort to feel more unique, much to her parents' dismay. Though she had little furriends growing up, she often preoccupied herself with designing and creating various gizmos and gadgets. Other hobbies included writing and reading fanfiction, drawing, watching anime, reading manga, playing video games, and browsing imageboards and forums. She would flaunt herself as a political activist, even if it wasn't something she truly enjoyed. Though she was passionate about her work, the same could not be said for school, often slacking or completely forgetting to do her assignments. This would lead to her dropping out of university and being disowned by her parents. Now truly alone, she would spiral into depression working a dead end job with little to no future. She almost came close to ending it all before meeting two unlikely furriends one fateful day, changing her life forever.

You can change as much or as little as you want, but you might lose points in the uniqueness category. The goal should be "If I was designing a character based off this backstory, what would I make them look like?"

Doesn't really matter how simple or complex the design is, the goal is to just make something interesting and unique

Takes place in a near future setting (around the 2060's) where an event similar to the resonance cascade from Half Life causes the worlds of humans and anthros to merge violently. There was a war that ravaged much of the Earth and now everyone lives in an uneasy peace several decades after the fact. The population has become even more concentrated in urban centers as they provide relative safety from the interdimensional anomalies that roam the countryside. Many world governments have collapsed, leading to a refugee crisis. Those that remain have increased surveillance and government oversight to prevent a similar catastrophe, though this has led to significant unrest in the population. There was already one civil war that split the United States and now another war is on the horizon

Hopefully that works well enough

Did this put humans and anthros that evolved separately into the same world? Or does this setting have anthros who were magically changed from humans? Pic related.

Also, is she AzN? Her hair should be black. I bet she dyes it.

Also, to be a little more serious, you can't have cities and their populations in isolation. Los Angeles, to mention but one example, sucks in drinking water, electricity, fuel, and food from two thirds of the continent. They're pulling in every unclaimed watt and breadcrumb between the Mississippi and the Pacific. Put the city on a rock in the middle of the ocean and everybody dies, most within the first four or five days. gg no re

Yes

Her hair was originally inspired by Mymy from Ongezellig (I haven't actually watched it though) so yes she would be Asian
>Also, to be a little more serious, you can't have cities and their populations in isolation
Of course. I didn't mean to imply everyone lived in cities, just that things are more centralized and the famines you expect would come as a result. There would still be rural and suburban populations of course

Submitting my entry. I had a lot of fun doing this. Excuse it being kind of sketching, I feel like I can get across my vision a bit better with sketches and imprecise lines rather than what I'd normally do and trace over the sketch layer with single lines

>Explanation
When reading through the character description I think what really stood out to me was the whole idea of rebelling against her family structure and wanting to feel unique. To me, my mind goes towards the sort of "emo" culture, or in particular scene culture from the 2000s. Along this regard I gave her a slightly modernized scene look, complete with that iconic hairstyle you should be familiar with (dyed with streaks of the color from the original design), as well as some "edgy" components like a choker, a chain in the pocket, and fingerless gloves. On top of that, somewhat baggy jeans and boots also fit the aesthetic for that time period. But she tucks her shirt in and dresses a little more formally/slim, which is more reminiscent of current day alt fashion I think. She also has some ear piercings that couple with all of this.

Being a nerd, I couldn't not give her big round glasses. I just like big round glasses in general but it seems to fit the character well, especially because asian (if that's really where she hails) girls have these kind of glasses more often than other ethnicities. Buck teeth to accompany it gives off the impression of a nerd trying to dress like a rebel.

For accessories, I kind of just threw in a mishmash of stuff. I was thinking, in the current year what kind of stuff would a techie bring along with them? She has a satchel with a swiss army knife, headphones, a charger, a little pocket computer with a keyboard, and some goggles (which she rarely uses but keeps because it makes her feel more nerdy). She also wears a casio watch to finish it off, because as any techie will tell you a smart watch is just too unreliable because it runs out of battery, while a casio can be waterproof and last forever. While it's a little tacky, I also gave her a necklace with a gear on it. A lot of scene fashion incorporates necklaces but I think things like peace symbols, stars, or crosses don't really fit this character in particular, so a gear seemed like a reasonable choice.

For alternate clothing the only other spin on scene fashion would be swapping the t-shirt out for a tank top, which I added in just as a bonus. I'm not much of a fashion person myself so I don't know much on how to put spins on this, but a lot of this clothing being iconic to that time period I'm trying to replicate kind of reduces options. Probably any variation would just be shirts with different designs or just a bunch of pointless stuff like random belts and buckles as scene fashion sometimes incorporated.

As far as her anatomy goes, I do like more noticeable anthro features, so a bigger snout and big ol' round rat ears seemed a no brainer, along with keeping the prominent tail. She has a slight fur pattern, being a bit lighter on the belly, though you can only see the difference in pattern on her face and chest here.

I included a little simplification on the right with some of the less important things removed like the satchel and chain, since not every drawing would need to include every little accessory I feel.

When it comes to "reinterpretation", are we able to stray from the explicit things, i.e. switch parents from focusing school to parents instead very much complacent worker bee types not even interested in her gaining any sort of education, etc, and have more an issue with her attempting to stand out than some sort of failure to perform

Maybe you'd be right if I wanted contestants to draw the character the same as I do. But that's not the point and you can see from entries like >>128800 that the redesigns can be very radical and different (which I highly encourage). It's a personal test of mine to see how different artists might tackle the same concept in different ways

tbf that's part of my approach

the entire idea is looking at the most stereotypical interpretation of the character as given and not doing that. When I make my own characters I tend to go with a similar idea of

>basic qualities I want
>main appearance related things I want
>world they exist in

You go at it with those elements and usually one of the three wins out as the main influence on the design. Since this one is more specific to a setting, the approach is more focused on how the elements of character/appearance could exist in that world.

An example would be how being unique clothing-wise in a world where rationing/limited supplies exists becomes more on taking what you are allowed and making it yours. You take a jumpsuit and cut the pants portion off to make a shirt others don't have. You dye things with bleach or other supplies that stain, but aren't explicitly dye. Etc.

Changes I have in mind are more to fit the character in the world more than the more stereotypical things might allow.

Like I could opine on the most basic things and how it would change things. Like, she likes games/forums/etc, but what does the internet look like in this world? A bunch of "internets" rather than one "Internet"? How does that change what it means to enjoy the internet?

What does a deadend job or a school look like? School perhaps intends on readying you for specific jobs more than general fields. A deadend job might be one with no advancement because they see the employed as living shortened lives.

What about activism? Sure, rationing, or brutality, but what about simple ideas of freedom of movement? Perhaps the anomalous zone spreads and people go out to treat the land to keep it at bay. Could even be that the push against the zone could be winning but the powers that be would rather just bide their time until they are no longer able to hide the fact that they are able to fight the problem in a much more sufficient way.

etc etc etc etc

This is a lot of stuff I've put into consideration gek

Posting my submission. Apologies if the art is weird looking, consistency is a massive weakness of mine and this was the first time I was pushed to try and add some kind of expression to her. But other than that it was kind of 'fun' doing a character concept in general.
>Notes
I will be honest I have no clue how to design characters like Xandra since I don't exactly have a life outside from being indoors all day and listening to my peers. But I did make an attempt. I
>Clothing
I drew up three different types. First one I mostly assumed she'd still own a university shirt and went with more of a house clothes approach. Alt clothes I tried to think what she would wear but went basic leather jacket and boots.
Third I came up with a wagie apparel probably working at some inner city market thats both a shopping store and a electronics shop. The apron is standard uniform and a wrist watch made to monitor the employees. Like a body cam except it can also track your heart rate and how long you've been on break.
The name tag of course is taped over since her boss was just lazy and forgot to change her name despite her asking him kindly to change it.
>Other things
Since she is an artist I thought it would make sense that she should carry around art supplies. With the gadgets and gizmos I thought it'd be cool to giver her some tools she has both at home and on the go. I still think the tri-lens fit well with the 2060s >>128636 aspect of it. For that I assume it's like XCOM Apocalypse kind of deal with various of cyberpunk mega cities spread out over earth with only government and military facilities on the outside. Speaking of which I kind of assumed that by that point humanity hasn't fucked themselves and are still managing with modern but with some pre-cyberpunk type of stuff.
The little tri-scopes were mostly inspired from votoms and metal gear mkII from Snatcher.
I thought it'd be interesting that there are still paranoia about the anomalies creeping in the city the government had their top minds to create a camera to alert special units for them to investigate however the camera is still new and has a 50% accuracy rate meaning the units have to figure it out for themselves.

ill post about my process making it after i eat
Replies: >>130120
sorry for keeping you waiting i was really hungry
anyways theres a bunch of things i dont think my process is as well thought out as youre hoping for this explanation but i sure can share thoughts
firstly because i dont have talent of my own i relied on referencing something current (the slur tracker cs2 site)
the speaker joke basically ripping off the triggered joke in snoot game
the chest belts, hat (for some reason i thought it was a beret), and pins all looked too important to do without so i made sure to keep them. the jacket was actually closed at first before i remembered. oh yeah also the more squared hair tufts
speaking of the jacket i just looked up "hipster women's denim jacket" and mashed 2 i saw together
then that made me realized that she would probably hate me using the term "women's for a type of clothing so i decided to add other tabs and bookmarks on the computer.
this design makes her look small so i made the keyboard very big
chest fluff erotic
i saw the new "hire this man" zelda design and i thought the buckled gloves were something that looked nice but on like a weird girl not link so i did that
i thought there should be more on that hat and thats the best i came up with
there are the ear piercings. i saw a lot of the original designs had some lines coming from the ears and i couldnt tell what it was but it kind of reminded me of some other design i saw this on, kiki i think it was. now realizing it was just fluff
what i like to do sometimes when drawing is close my eyes for the first sketch it obviously turns out like shit but it helps me come up with new ideas. i realized i wanted more bended legs because of that
i was originally going to put an edit of the one comic where some guy says hes racist and black girl starts blushing but i couldnt find it
i think it would be funny to make her that type of racist where they think theyre being non racists by telling you that you shouldnt date other races because they can only imagine its for fetish reasons
oh year also i was going to just superimpose a picture of my web browser as well for this but i got rid of my 8 year old pc thats on its last leg possibly from downloading hentai games who can really say and bought a slightly better one for 2000 averilion dollars which only gets you something slightly better than what 1100 dollars will get you 8 years ago so i lost that screenshot and i didnt want to be advertised shirts about how gay i am for the next 10 months so i just sucked it up and tried my best to write really tiny
if i remember more ill make another comment
anyway i remember there being a community vote. i vote for me because my drawing is the best and im the coolest guy ever in the entire existence and everyone else is a big stinkyface. if i had to pick a very far off second though i would pick >>129594. this one is very different from what i came up with but shes very cute

I mean I think thats how a lot of stuff starts, and then you either keep it that way and just sort of have the character able to float in and out of stuff, or give them a more direct place in things.

Most of the things I've ended up working on for more serious projects tend to start out as a role to fill and then goes from there

Been busy with work, meaning I'm lagging behind where I wanted the doodles to be before the deadline.

Nonetheless I've got some stuff still

She's a shy nerd, so I thought about making her a little rounder in shape language.
Doesn't seem like the type to be abrasive or aggressive towards others at first.
She's an inventor so she's surely curious in nature. That's why It's the first emotion I drew.
Built modestly, she doesn't overfeed herself or starve either. She might be hyper-focused on other things like her inventions, but her health is just as high of a priority.
Brown fits her better. It's warm compared to just gray, and it's also a less common color when it comes to rat characters.
I think arrow-shaped eyebrows are cute.
Her hair is constantly messy. It's short, it's spiky, it's free, it requires the least amount of maintenance.
I also thought giving her this kind of wicked hair would give off the "electrocuted" look. Typical for someone like her lol
She's a natural optimist! Despite the world's faults she prefers to look on the brighter side of things. That's why despite her shyness, she's a bright and colorful person.
The big cartoonish gloves are a staple detail of an inventor/genius. I liked watching Dexter's Lab as a kid, so i took it for inspiration.
I chose to keep her cross-shaped iris. I can't think of a better choice.
Her hair is also a bit reactive to her expressions, such an emotional and expressive person she is. I like her.

I didn't take any progress pics because I'm just not used to doing that.

Outside of the ref sheet, there's her in workspace attire.

Good luck to everyone who's participated
May the best piece win! :D

I am not good at character design, I think that's obvious. Either way, I still wanted to participate in that competition. So I made this. I will try to explain my reasoning. I'm not a person who writes lengthy posts, so I will keep it brief.

I have to admit, my perspective on Xandra changed after reading her backstory. Some of her quirks seemed annoying for me at first, but after learning more about her I became more sympathetic.

While designing the character, I tried to forget what she looked like. I wanted to know how I would have depicted Xandra. I might have subconsciously given her some traits of an original design, but overall, I tried my best to visualise my take on the character.

I am aware that the uniqueness of the design is probably the most crucial aspect in that competition. However, I still wanted to stick to my philosophy of creating a character. I like to keep the design simple. I could have added some unnecessary detail in order to make her look more unique, but would that necessarily make the design better? I wanted to create a design that would speak for itself, so a person after a first glance could easily estimate what kind of character Xandra is.

I wanted to draw Xandra at her lowest point while depicting her rebellious nature at the same time. I see Xandra as a determined person that tries to keep the appearance of strength and independence. She obviously went through a lot in her life, but she doesn't want others to pity her or see her weaknesses. That's why she presents herself in a way that shows her rebellious personality while hiding the poor state that she's in — her hairstyle hides her scar, her clothes are in a poor condition, but she wears them confidently to create a feeling of a fashion of choice. She doesn't want help, which sadly results in her being isolated and misunderstood.

I hope that explanation was more than enough. I had a lot of fun while drawing and I hope you like it.

I read the thread about Xandra growing up in a post-war USA and I thought to draw what I thought she'd look like 10 years from now.
She'd grow up tough and become the deadliest rat in the USA. She still loves fixing things. She also got ripped from being a badass all day.

The deadline really snuck up on me, I wish I could have done more, but here's my submission. I'm not a good character designer or anything, but I just thought it'd be fun to participate.
The only drawing I used as reference was the one provided in >>128333 (OP) , I used that as a base to start out with. Since gadgets and tinkering was referenced in her bio, I wanted to lean more into that aspect of her character, by giving her some gadgets that have a DIY feel, since she made them herself. I also saw that she was from Baltimore, and that made me think of crabs, so I gave her the two claws (Well, one is just a saw, but you get the idea) you see in the drawing. She has a set of pincers below the claws as well, they're worn by her similarly to a backpack. Her boots have treads on them, which lets her move without lifting her legs, because her backpack would probably be very heavy. The boots also have wheels that can fall down and a rocket on the back of them which could let her move at high speeds. On her wrist she wears a sort of sci-fi watch that can produce holograms, mostly just used for communication and gaming.
With the rusty metal claws covered in stickers, loose wires, and dirty ripped sweatpants and hoodie, I wanted her to come across as a messy and disorganized. I was trying to lean into the DIY aspect a lot. Even her hoodie is missing the drawstring, since she probably lost it and doesn't care about looking presentable.
It was fun to put more thought into a drawing, but it was challenging, I don't really know how to design characters. If I had more time I would have loved to draw more of her.
She is an awesome possom rat.
>>130003
I'd say you did pretty well with this. I like the backpack you give her in this one.

Probably as much as I will get properly "done" before needing to sleep and go back to work.

As mentioned before, focused on the world and its influence on the design.

Went with an asian garden dormouse as the animal, with the rodent thing and the asian coding going on.

Clothing is relatively limited due to rationing of supplies so any outfits should be worn or manufactured in such a way that they are plain and utilitarian. Meaning any of her personalized elements would be just that, personalized, as well as lacking in the flare one might expect. A simple cut off shirt version of a jumpsuit is unique when most people are supplied the jumpsuit and do nothing but wear it as intended.. She expresses herself but still avoids too much as to avoid becoming a problem to be stamped down. Drew a few different things just to get an idea what it might look like for a few outfits, without adding too much detail to any specific one.

Clamshell was initially a tinkering sort of project, but after an injury while outside the walls, she aimed the project into a more useful direction. A way of tracking anomalies and listing them and the strange things they do. Writings and drawings are scanned once returned from the field and entered into the database.

Job working for the gov as a manual laborer in a borderline suicidal clean up crew. Her goal is to get society back outside the walls of the cities and while the cleanup crew job is something RELATED to what she wants to do, the low-level nature of it, and her inability to change the system, has lead her to a disillusioned state. Any activism is under a pseudonym, but the nature of it is only a means to an end. She wants change, but doesn't enjoy being outside the system doing it. She would rather the changes come from within that system. Without the population allowed freedom of movement to come and go from the cities, the powers that be will simply allow the anomalies to be seen as a boogieman that gives them the reason to hold people inside the walls.

Being on the crew she sees the danger, and has been hurt by it, but at the same time, feels the people in power have the resources to make a genuine push that would give the population more freedom, if only they wanted that.

Family is hardworking, but ultimately unwilling to climb ladders in any social sense. They would rather simply get by, safe as they can be in this new world, with only an expectation of the status quo. Activism, and the potential issue it raises with her family being somehow roped into it, leads to a fight and being disowned. They were already not happy with her going to school, and even less happy with her sneaking out of the walls, seemingly more worried her doing so would potentially disrupt their family's stability rather than her well being.

The other aspects of the character are mostly unchanged in this interpretation, with her relationship with her parents and their stockholm syndrome with TPTB being the main plot point that drives her to meet new friends. She has a few people she trusts, including a teacher whom helps her stabilize her wounds when she sneaks back into the city, knowing she can't go to a proper infirmary as she received the injuries outside the walls.

Intended originally for the arm injury to make a robotic arm on her shoulder useful but ended up scrapping that idea.

Sloppy list of, this is what ive compiled for trying to redesign her, hope you enjoy reading it all lots of fun!

The first thing I did when making her redesign was a big shape silhouette; it started with an hourglass shape. This is what led to making her standard outfit a skirt and a Ushanka hat since they fit perfectly. Very pointy, and I thought it would be accurate to think about her being loud and unfiltered; instead of being an outcast for being a typical quiet introverted weirdo, she was avoided by all because of how she can't shut up about her beliefs and geeky interests.

'TISM: syndrome from Incredibles is her GOAT since he made the Omnidroids. also loves Huey from Boondocks. inspired by Mecha Animes like eva and gundam since she's a geek, also a fan of in titanfall. she admires Malcom X, especially since he's speculated to be Bi and she relates to that. She basically lives in the shack outside her parent's home, she has her own room too but only uses it to sleep and some other minimal things.

CLOTHING: for her casual clothing she wears a rolled up black work jacket based on Communist China steel workers, also big sturdy steeltoed boots to compliment them. Her black skirt is based on the fashion Black Panther women who used to protest back in the day wore. Large ushanka hat that she cut holes in to fit her ears in. purple belt and purple longsleeved undershirt. She has feminist icon and bi flag pins. When she gets to making her robot's physical components, she unrolls her jacket and wears some protective gear like gloves, baggy pants and a welding helmet. When she goes to work in Crackerbarrel she wears a waitress uniform with her locks tied on the back of her head.

SOCIAL: I decided to shift the concept of her punk aesthetic towards her being a black nationalist, my reasons being since she's from Baltimore Maryland and it has a strong African American connections with punk culture there. I originally was going to keep both the punk and black part of her but i then decided to just keep the black part and drop the punk since her ideas of being a black nationalist basically fulfills the aspect of being against the system and reduces to much design clutter for the vision im going for. She has dyed pink locks with some lavender beads since she's blaqq and it also hints her being a feminist. She's a total outcast, her being an anthro plus being a blasian makes it difficult to find any community to take her along. She truly enjoys being a political activist however its all underwhelming and performative.

MECHATRONICS: She likes to test her shitty homemade robots against interdimensional wildlife by sneaking out near the rural areas (Garrett County), of course at a safe distance with a remote control and cameras attached to them like drones. She managed to destroy one, but her other attempts led to nothing since the majority of the entities she encounters are dangerous and sturdy overall. This attempt involved a bot that she armed with an AA12, this anomaly was completely passive and thus easy to terminate. She uses this as evidence in her manifesto and her beliefs that she's a capable revolutionary with enough power to topple the entire system with her cheap death machines; however, she's too prideful to accept the fact that the government views her as a total joke since she is one. This is BLACK EXCELLENCE however. Specifically since automation could transfer work onto machines instead of people doing it manually so they can live life as it's intended. She wants to be a jobless bum, and also because it's like modern-day slavery, like how African Americans suffered back then in the USA, since bots will get stuff done instead of humanity getting exploited by capitalism. She writes manifestos about this stuff too. She has a homemade small forge where she does all her metal work, she gets these metals and such from her parents money or her own money.

ART: she's good artist using that skill to design her robot schematics and for making cute furry art and political comics to own the chvds. she's decent at writing since all the fanfiction does and it translates to her making her manifesto

PERSONAL: She's a mix of a giant African pouch rat and a Chinese bamboo rat; her dad is Chinese, and her mother is Angolan. I didn't change her to be a possum or a rat/poss mix since I thought about her being East Asian and the caricature of them being rodents to be a nice thing to consider. The most prominent ideas that make up her identity include being a feminist, Black activist, and communist

COLLEGE: She studied for a Mechatronics Engineering, really expensive and never fully completed it! despite her exceptional skill for robot making in her shack she still failed the semesters since she does not find college work as important as her machines for fighting against the system. she also took some classes of African American history and gender studies. She's a self taught welder and metallurgy hobbyist

WORK HISTORY: She's mainly been attending college via parents' money and financial aid, getting some additional money with her art comms. However, she managed to land a job at Cracker Barrel and worked there for a good amount of time. Despite it being full of Raycis Whyte Pipo that she despises, the job market is beyond terrible and does not risk continuing being jobless. She's a pretty great programmer, but she avoids using that skill for remote jobs since she's paranoid the government will take her up and make death machines for them.

I didn't mean for my entry to take this long, but glad my weekend was freed up enough for me to be able to contribute something. I wanted to try and reimagine Xandra as what she would be like both if I had designed her and also what she would look like in my own setting which is influenced pretty heavily by a lot of sci-fi works but mostly the Star Wars Expanded Universe. A lot of the design elements I went with takes directly from these pieces of media, so characters like Ghent from the Thrawn Trilogy or Geordi La Forge from Star Trek especially with how I designed her visor. There are some other influences like how I wanted her outfit to be a cross between Android 17 from DBZ and Seto Kaiba's jacket from YuGiOh but with a cyberpunk-like color palette for it. For her little robot buddy, K1-K1, I mostly based her off of Haro from Mobile Suit Gundam with a bit of inspiration coming from the little droid nyagga from Star Wars Lethal Alliance (Zeeo apparently), which is actually a pretty shitty game I wont even lie but the design of that specific droid always stuck with me as being pretty cool. I wanted to give her some sort of Pip-Boy esque PDA to help sell the role of her being a Slicer (hacker) but I didn't want to just have it attached to her arm, I've always thought that an Anthro's tail is an underutilized means to attach cybernetics or accessories to for character design.

Decided to also come up with a bio for this version of Xandra, trying to keep it similar enough to the one provided in the OP. :()
>
"Xandra was born on an unremarkable but stable world in a system of some economic significance in Republic space. Her family were aristocrats who had connections to the planetary governor on her home planet and as such were attempting to get her set up on a career which would have taken care of her financial needs for the rest of her life. However, Xandra was different from her peers and she often took more towards experimenting with technology and code, demonstrating this aptitude at an early age by constructing her life-long companion, K1-K1, from a robotics kit intended for intellectually gifted children. This difference gradually shifted into a desire to go her own way entirely, hitching a ride on a freighter vessel departing from her home world one fateful night, using her Slicing skills to re-route it's course to one of many Underbellies outside of Republic jurisdiction. Though naturally talented at Slicing, she was a victim of her own laziness and desire to put her hobbies first such as watching foreign holo-animations and wreaking havoc in the digital bulletin boards used for discussion across the Astronet. As a result, it became difficult for her to find anybody willing to pay her for work, even for some of the most taxing and dangerous slicing jobs. Eventually, she gained the attention of the notorious smuggler chief, Roy Torres, who took her in as something of a charity case while still recognizing her talents. She has since become one of the premier slicers in his Smuggler organization, often being one of the first he contacts for difficult work, and she has free access to most of the classified database used to catalogue finances, information and cargo manifiests his people deal with. She does lament, however, that the inner workings and navi-computer data of Torres' personal vessel, the Golondrina, remain off limits to her.

The greatest display of Xandras technical prowess is her construction and modification of K1-K1, her lifelong best friend, who was a building toy intended to teach gifted robotics students the basics of constructing a robot. Since she was created, she has since been modified by Xandra to have a suite of various slicing tools, a concealed 10mm Submachine gun, and an upgraded AI brain to give her a much greater degree of intelligence and personality."

I'm really tired right now so I might not be able to form correct sentences or even come up with long ones.

I made her skinnier, she has her orangy streak of hair like her old design, her green and cross eyes. I made her wear a jacket thing that has buttons for different kinds of sleeves, long ones has a carry thing where you can place your tools. Big gloves since she tinkers and stuff, and a big hat since I wanted to give her a hat like the original design, has that red pin but bigger.

I think that's all I can muster for now, I'm tired . Hopefully I can expand on this another day or later , like with a new drawing of her tinkering and a much more detailed explanation. .The colours here might be bad so that might be something I need to touch up on. But this is it for now

So, what do we have here...
Firstly, for the design I picked the point in the history when Xandra is about to join le team and at hers lowest. The place is going to be le city X. "You have chosen, or been chosen, to relocate to one of our finest remaining urban centers." kind of city.
Le environment:
So, the thing happened and now we got all the cool stuff: poverty, segregation, fear and hunger, crimes and almost non-existent economics. Just like in medieval times, cool. But now we got anthros. Even more cooler. Let's say we get an area where there is more people than anthros, which is city X. Not a lot of people will share their homes with them, so we get a house crisis and debt slavery (almost like now). And also they don't have fitting clothing items and many other stuff, so they need to improvise. That's not that bad as in Half-life, but still kinda cool.
What is da rat doing:
So what Xandra did is an unusual type of suicide when you split from your main life support at crisis times - the family. The result is seen at the graphs. First pic is first two tries btw. Pretty banal, so I made the third. THE BUM. This is the get real moment. Like imagine leaving college and everyone while being unemployed in real world. Now it's here, but we also got the end of times.
18 hour work. Employed at one of those anthros only manufactures that pay them with junk and a right to be in the city. Sleep deprivation. Hard to focus. Dumpster scavenging at mornings. Surfing the last working chunks of the internet at nights. Notices some radical anthro groups, but too scared to join. And her landlord is a damn evil capitalist pig (a regular one). Goes on walk to the junkyard one day and gets a scratch in the ankle from some alien mutant animal (very scary). What that means is that she's now infected with an unknown super virus that KILLS humans and is AIRBORNE. But only Xandra to human, like, no pandemics and stuff, doesn't replicates in humans, but can transfer via things she touches. Or if she spits in a pool. That's the shtick. She's like an actual disease carrying rat now. So what will she do when she realizes this...? Will be a liberator of all anthro races? Will become a genocidal monster...? Or will she regain herself after her friends hecking say something like "Xandra don't do this! This is... LE BAD". YOU decide. 30 different endings. Professional voiceover. And stuff. It's been great to see all the variety and different character traits or bit of background lore that artists choose to focus on or emphasize. The time has to come to select the winners. This was rather difficult, as I do believe a lot of these designs are great. But unfortunately not everyone can win, so I have to choose those that I believe truly went above and beyond.

1st Place: >>130014
The amount of consideration that went into how the setting would impact her appearance is what lands this entry in first place. The explanation and reasoning is very thorough, and the additional drawings detailing backstory and design elements are much appreciated. A minor nitpick would be that her face appears more rabbit like to me than a rodent. Other than that, I would say this one is perfect.

2nd Place: >>130118
Making her blasian was an unexpected surprise and makes this entry stand out among the rest. Though I imagine it was unintended, having her be a black nationalist would make her future friendship with Grace even funnier and more ironic. The amount of effort that went into the explanation is what secures the second place spot. One thing that I don't think really fits however is the AA12. If Xandra is going to use a weapon, it should be something she designed and built herself so having it be a regular shotgun seems rather out of place. I also feel like making her loud and obnoxious is changing the core of the character a bit too much. Still a great design regardless.

3rd Place: >>130026
The inclusion of the wip drawings is greatly appreciated and gives some insight into the process. Detailing how she lives, how she survives, and what her life would be like is what earns this third place. The reasoning for the design choices isn't nearly as thorough as the other two entries, so that's why this one ranks lower.

Really awesome design. However, the lack of a thorough explanation of the design choices means I can't rank it as highly. With that, it would have probably been third or even second place.
>>130003
I really love how crazy and out there the gadgets she has are, really awesome. However, the body is a little too derivative of the original. More drawings and a more detailed thought process of how the design would fit into the world would have ranked this higher.
>>129594 and >>128677
I'm lumping these together because I think they both have very detailed drawings with alternate outfits and expressions but similar to >>130003 they are a bit too derivative. Not bad designs of course, just not quite as unique as the winners.

Thank you all again for participating. I hope it was as fun for you to come up with these designs as it was for me to see them.

TO THE WINNERS: Add me on Steam using my friend code: 290255190
There, we can discuss how you'll receive your reward. You'll need to provide proof so I can verify it's you, such as a screenshot of your drawing in the program you used. If you don't add me within 72 hours then I will give the reward to the next runner up.

Though the competition may be over, I think it only makes sense to have all these Xandra variants battle to the death to decide who is the strongest with a Hunger Games simulator

>A minor nitpick would be that her face appears more rabbit like to me than a rodent

Probably one of my hardest issues when it comes to designs, is trying to avoid making faces look samey or just a bit too off model from the animal its supposed to be.

Usually try to draw a char like 3 or 4 times to get a better idea on the structure, but didn't do that this time admittedly oops

Also might've been better to grab more dormouse references, since this was what I initially picked up and didnt bother with anything else lol

It's entirely fair. We should L❤️VE her, not demand death. Even shitlibs deserve love, at least when they are female anthros.
