woudl it be morally okay to take dust and fidget, give them new names and faces, and put them in my own story or would that be fluffed up? i know some personalities become tropes so would it really be that different? i like the characters and their dynamic with eachother but i cant help but feel let down by thr story theyre in. i mean its competent at least but its boring. i couldnt help but feel like the characters were wasted on it. i dont currently have an idea but its sonething id want to keep in mind

To be honest I think originality is overrated to some extent, pretty much every creative work in human history is derivative of something else. I guess there's layers to that though and as >>135992 said its not really a bad thing to pull ideas from another work unless its going to negatively effect the story by people being able to guess whats going to happen.
