Nope, the red fox is an extremely adaptable animal. They can grow very thick coats in the winter and colder environments but just grow short coats in the summer or in warmer climates. The main reason is that their diet is extremely wide. Unlike most canines, foxes are omnivores. They eat everything from birds to insects to berries to rodents to lizards to fruit, they even eat eggs. They aren't super dependent on a specific climate or environment nor are they limited to living in places that a specific type of prey inhabits. Compare that to a wolf that has a hard time living in a place where large herbivores as prey aren't available. They even adapt to urban areas, in places like London they're a lot less skittish near humans and they get a lot of their food from human scraps, it helps that they're a lot smaller meaning less intimidating and requiring less calories. Foxes don't have their cunning and clever reputation for no reason, they are super smart when it comes to learning how to take advantage of whatever environment they're in and avoiding the obstacles it gives
