the plot is ever since she was a kid she has had unexplainable nightmares of this king every night which got so bad her parents had to quit their nice jobs working and living in a castle and move out to nowhere. on top of that they spent a bunch of money trying to treat some illness that makes her inable to use magic as her dream is to be a mage which didnt even work.
between her constant night terrors, her dreams being hopelessly out of reach, and her strained relation with her parents, she quickly turned to alcohol which she seems to be unable to build a tolerance for. while shes drunk she does really shameful things however she also realized she no longer has nightmares those nights. this all led to her drinking every night, having sex with some random guy and using him for a place to sleep, food, and more drinks, then waking up ashamed of herself causing her to drink again to avoid all of it.

by the time the story starts she had enough of it and decided shed make herself into someone others could look up to, and decided the best way to do it was to move to another country and change hrr name so shed be a new person. obviously changing your name doesn't magically do that so she falls into the same impulsive pitfalls she usually does and cant meet her basic needs, causing her to drink again which goes absolutely horribly. she does find someone who is patient with her, quill-weave, and despite the trouble she caused for her (breaking into her house wrecking the place and sleeping with some random guy in her bed), decides to help katia and entrust her with a courier job. she has a bunch more hiccups but over the course of this job she does improve as a person from not wanting to fail the one person she can remember who actually trusted her with something no matter how simple it is
>tldr katia wants to make everyone proud and thinks she isnt bc she messed up again (and again) but no were still proud of her bc she tries. also she is very fun and positive when shes not sobbing her eyes out. btw tell your friend to try harder because katia will be my wife.
