That's fine. I think it's a problem most serious furry media runs into-- justifying the usage of anthros as opposed to just telling a story with human characters when the latter would work just as well. Most of the time it just breaks down into being used as a safe allegory for race alla Zootopia, I feel. I suppose you could take this question all the way back to those 19th century political cartoons this all originally started from. Why didn't those cartoonists just use humans to depict nationalities? I don't know. It's probably some kind of manifestation of veiled misanthropy, a sort of lamenting subtext beneath it all. Like I said, as long as the scope of the story doesn't reach that far, leaving it unanswered is perfectly acceptable, I'd argue. It probably lends the universe an air of mystery, even.

I did reply to you with an idea for a commissioned illustration for the story. I thought you'd seen it and just found me too annoying to even bother responding to, which made me laugh, but that's also chill. I actually think the story might work better without it.
