A small price to be with your waifur

This thing is dead as hell at $1060 usd. People were coping "if it's more than $800 I'm not buying it" "it just had LPDDR5 ram so it isn't as affected by the shortage" the experience is no better than a quest 3 and the resolution is worse than a headset released 7 fucking years ago.
But uhh it's valve and you get 1 hour of standalone battery life so it's totally worth it or some shit ig
Should've just made this a really good wireless headset instead of sticking computer internals in it and making a whole ass ARM translator for steamOS. Would've been half the price and an infinitely better deal

I'd been under the impression that a VR headset is not too different from a PC display (positioning sensors and passthrough cameras notwithstanding) - you just plug it in and run the games themselves from your PC's hardware. But apparently these are more self-sufficient and closer to high-end smartphones internals-wise instead?

You'd think Valve would be focused on making VR more affordable. Shelling out a grand for something that you may not even find enjoyable seems like a risky purchase. Idk what they put into those faceberg headsets but they are considerably more affordable. As far as I'm concerned their one drawback is m*ta intruding on privacy being a certainty.
A quick look at the discussions around this headset shows no one seems to be impressed. What's up with Valve lately?

To my understanding existing vr stuff mostly integrates with a computer, while the steam frame is just running Linux so you can do whatever you want with it. Closed garden vs open approach. If I had to guess you'll need to wait for someone to do something with that for it to be popularized but it has more capability than other vr brands

265GB handheld for 1.6k will SAVE gaming
Is vr used for anything outside vr chat?

H3VR/Sword and Sorcery are pretty fun.

Besides those, I played modded VR skyrim a lot which was a fun experience.

But beyond that VR gaming is kind of dead right now. Maybe valve's VR will kickstart more development. I doubt it though.

Oh! I also played hl2VR with the Krystal mod

Half Life Alyx was great, and in general if you have an HMD you may as well see if there's any vr mods for the games you already like. Outside of that yeah there's not a ton like the other posters are saying.
