because video games are essentially ubiquitous in the modern day, whereas obsessing over anthropomorphic animals is still a niche interest. the more you something niche/weird, the more you stand out from normal people, which can necessitate labels
also if you save pictures of anthros to appreciate (or more nefarious things) or read anthro fanfiction, you're pretty far out from being a normalfag, as would someone who saves pictures of video game characters or reads video game fanfiction
