Fandoms often reinforce bad/annoying behavior is the problem. It's why for many of these topics it's suggested to "engage with the source material, but not the fandom." Fandoms are echo chambers on the discussion of a single piece of media, which devolves into them often hailing their media of choice as the greatest ever due to only ever discussing it with other superfans. Additionally, if certain groups with special interests happen to be the majority of a fandom's vocal population, it ends up resulting in the rest of the fandom being associated with these interests, and thus the source material itself being associated with said interests. As an example, something like a Deltarune has an annoying "fandom" which is just people retelling and spamming the same jokes over and over. They aren't free spirits in the sense of having their own ideas, because they are infected by groupthink. Yet the source material itself, Deltarune, is quite good on it's own. All the same, the game itself is associated with these annoying fans, and the game is seen as annoying as a result. It's fine to be a fan of something, but being part.of the construct known as a "fandom" I feel only ever leads you to bad places
