What is the method to finding actual long term internet friends, I feel like every fucking 2 months I find a group of people w similar interests and then drift away, it's a never ending cycle.

Why do you want Internet friends? Why not IRL friends?

I have those. I try my best to separate online and irl unless online becomes an irl friendship, I like to play games and talk interests that most people irl find weird online. typical normie by day loser by night activities.

Your problem seems to be keeping friends not finding them. Anyone can be good long term friends with you if you maintain the relationship and put effort into it

my longest term online friends stem from a tf2 custom community server we played on together
what was special about it was its requirement of a microphone to participate in the custom gamemode, which encouraged the formation of cliques and also made it far easier to befriend others versus a community that only communicates via text
we dont talk as actively as we once used to due to changes in our personal lives, but the friendship is still there nearly a decade after it began
all friendships I had before this group had disappeared into the digital abyss, all because I was too afraid to talk and stand out from the group

part of retaining friends is offering something unique to them, usually your personality, but if you are the shy type who just exists and doesnt really do much, then you will likely be quickly forgotten
be memorable, but most importantly, be friendly, as drama and hostility quickly kills all friendships

Fair, but honestly it feels no matter how much effort I put it, we tend to drift apart, then they end up in separate friend groups and don't feel like interacting anymore, or it just feels wrong y'know? idk it just bums me out every time I put in that effort, try my best to maintain it, and then it falls through.

Might just take some time. Anecdotal experience but I've lost almost all the friends I had over my life, I only managed to keep three of them but they ended up being rock solid friends who have stuck with me through thick and thin

sound advice, I had a similar friend group with like 8 dudes, but we'd play GTA V on the xbox, and then we ended up playing a multitude of games, we ended up being good friends for close to a decade but ended up splitting up when most of us finished highschool. I have had a few friend groups like this in other scenarios too, like a group of furry artists that were really fun to be around, but basically the "leader" didn't like me and ended up just giving me the cold shoulder, until others followed and I only rarely talk to like two of the group now.

true. I have gained and lost alot of friends as well, with the ones who truly matter and care sticking around despite even years of radio silence lol. I guess its just moreso that feeling that online friends kind of drop off the face of the earth sometimes, or that you can't interact with them in other mediums other than games and messaging apps typically, and how it feels that making new friends after this is significantly harder.

Personally I feel content having a small number of close friends, larger friend groups are fickle and will fade over time. I'd focus on maintaining the few close relations you have as those are what count the most
This arrangement seems like it's working out just fine for you. Most people have probably found their "forever friends" by the time you meet them, I don't know how you'd go around identifying people that haven't.
