No one lives furever and we all have to go some time. That has never changed but that does not stop us from enjoying life, right?
Wouldn't think about it too hard, or, better yet, use it as motivation to spend more life with the dog, pampurr him.
I started worrying about my cat's age 7 years ago. He's still there, just slower, droopier and somehow more affectionate. Who knows how many more years the dog has ahead of him? Everyone seems to live longer than their species used to in the past lately. Better food and healthcare.
