This is basically a new thread (you might know me from the now discontinued halo x resonant evolution fanfic) about my new project, Cold Front.

Now, the pitcher.

COLD-FRONT.
Set in an alternate-universe world with a familiar geography, but alternate history, Cold Front is set on a super-earth planet called Erda, populated by Humans and Anthro mammals (Deer, Canines, Felines, Martens, Ferrets), which may co-exist peacefully at times.

Centuries of warfare have raged on Erda. Be it for power, resources, a feud between royalties, or independence. After the devastating Great Europan War against the Vostokian Reich between the 1940s and 1950s, a Cold-War emerges between two superpowers. The LFR (Luparan Federal Republic) and the UCSS (Union of Communist Sarmatian States).

Proxy wars and decades of political warfare and espionage follow for most of the 20th Century. By the dawn of the 21st Century and new millennium, crisis emerges that would plunge the world into another war. The remote arctic supervolcano of Saint Dennis Island erupts, causing a mass-famine across the Northern Hemisphere. The world struggles to survive, while the LFR and its ADTO allies of the west try to alleviate the situation.

The UCSS tests a nuclear weapon on the neighboring nation of Parthia, forcing international sanctions on the already-struggling communist economy. The leader of the UCSS also dies of a heart-attack, and is replaced with a much more extremist leader: Maxim Sokolov.

A surprise invasion of Vostokia and most of Europa occurs, starting the infamous Continental War of 2005.

More media too, with the ADTO member factions (I'll do Sarmatia later when i have the chance)
I like that it's a different planet for Earth so it explains how humans and anthros exist together
I'd have a nickel for every time someone made a halo inspired fanfic on the 'foo/'boo, i'd have two nickels, which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice
when is the first chapter?

anon anon anon but where are the anthro females

There aren't any. The males are genetically engineered supersoldiers grown in vats by various governments. The fur genes are only found on the Y chromosome. No waifurs are possible, even in principle. :(

no the anthros and humans have always co-existed together through history.

Soon. I have to write it n stuff. I'll let yall read it when I feel like its ready enough
>>121015
Also soon. The ArmA 3 mod im using doesn't have female anthros sadly

this is cool... cant wait to read the first chapter

To be a tiny bit more serious, is this "Cold War milsim but with different species?" Because https://drekfortmdc.itch.io/firelock-198x-09-public I will not spoil it by attempting any kind of description.
>>121071
In a sense, its an alternate-world worldbuilding project with its own history. After the current "timeline" i'm doing with East v. West, it will focus on other conflicts in this world. It is also inspired by Ace Combat, and ArmA 3 (slightly). Firelock 198X wasnt the primary inspo, but looks neat i guess.

also world map of Erda (Cold Front Earth.) It is 1.5x the size of Earth, but is less dense (Same gravity). It has three moons too.
Themis (Similar to our moon, but has a light atmosphere of water vapor from geysers)
Helianthus (Venusian-like moon, yellow hazy atmosphere obscures the surface)
and Nyx (Small irregular captured asteroid)

>less dense
Does that mean the planet doesn't have a nickel-iron core? That >implies a lot of implications.

>no magnetic field
>no Van Allen belts
>no protection from the solar wind
>electronics aren't going to develop along the same pathways, at least once they get to semiconductors

Also,
>alternate-world
Do you mean an alternate history? Seems like the point of divergence is so far in the past that the solar system and continents are visibly different. I have to think about this one. Or do you mean "this is my world setting and it isn't Earth?"
Replies: >>121113 >>121114
>>121112
Nothing that would alter the magnetic field that much, but as in thinner crust. (More fractured continents, and more volcanism)
Replies: >>121115
>>121112
Also as in "this isn't exactly Earth". It's for one:
- orbits an orange-dwarf star
- has a 26 hour day/night cycle
- has radically different world history and geopolitics (familiar enough to the reader at least)

Also this is all still WIP. What I mean by "less dense", is that its less heavier than a 1.5x-sized Earth would be, so it would have 1g of gravity while still having a nickel-iron core

the UCSS also possesses literal space VDV. they use crew reentry modules as makeshift drop-pods.

Oh, that other project won't be happening? The material you've made for this is nice and you having considered the astrology of your not-Earth makes me interested in seeing where you'll take this Ace Combat forever Cold War setup.

Wow, that's cool. The artwork is really nice and the manual illustrations capture the style of old wargame/Western military handbooks very well.

LORE. DUMP. (wordswordswords)

Prelude to War
2003: The Saint Dennis Supervolcano - located in the Arctic in the country of Yuvanesa - had erupted in an explosion. The smoke and ash clouds had polluted the upper layers of the atmosphere, dimming the sunlight and causing mass crop failures and famines. The ADTO and LFR had attempted to alleviate the suffering, sending massive amounts of aid to countries affected by the famines. Experiments with lab-grown food ramp up in response to the food crisis.

2004: Sarmatia tests a nuclear weapon on the neighboring nation of Parthia down below. Despite the weapon having detonated far beyond the Sarmatia-Parthian border, Sarmatia attempts to deny the accusations, instead saying the weapons were tested on its own land. The IA (International Assembly) unanimously agrees to sanction the UCSS, leading to the already economically and politically struggling nation to militarize in preparation for something. Hundreds of thousands in the UCSS starve to death.

Later that year, the UCSS's premier Alexei Ignodravich, dies of a heart attack at age 70. He is replaced by a hardline, ultranationalist veteran named Maxim Sokolov.
Under Sokolov, massive numbers of citizens are conscripted into the Armed Forces. He unifies the state militaries, citing "growing Western threats to the Union". Many do not object; they are hungry and angered at the West to bother.

2005: A massive buildup of troops occurs on the Sarmatia-Vostokia border. Fighter aircraft and helicopter incursions grow too close to the Vostokia border. At the same time, the LFR and its ADTO allies are participating in a joint-exercise.

On November 5, 2005, Premier Maxim Sokolov appears on national television. He announces the start of a "Liberation Campaign" and "Special Military Operation" aimed at freeing Europa from the "fascist tyranny" of the West. At the same time, hundreds of troops, tanks, and armored vehicles pour in through the border.

Contact is lost with Vostokia by Hour-04.

And now, the ADTO defenders are split at two fronts. Across the channel in Albion, where they're holding off against Sarmatian air incursions, and in Iberica, where Sarmatian forces are attempting to break through a series of mountains that create the border between Iberica and Vostokia, the "Muntanyes Sierras". These mountains are located behind a brutal desert region, and have numerous gun emplacements in the mountains, both anti-tank and anti-aircraft.
aight now i gotta write ch1 for this
i will return to this thread when I have more time to fully appreciate it, looks kino.

Ah. When you said "less dense" I assumed that since the Earth's nickel-iron core is a disproportionate amount of the Earth's mass, because it's so dense, the only way to get a less dense Earthlike planet was to delete it.

>>121117
Are they truly Space VDV if they aren't riding to the battlefield in ultralight, poorly armored APCs that are getting chucked out of the reentry vehicles of outsized ICBMs and floating down through the atmosphere beneath a bundle of enormous parachutes, though?

>everybody wants to join the desantniki until it's time to do desantnik things

Also, which of your world's nations has the most elite armored forces? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LKXl3zR7GwI

The UCSS has a ton of tanks, and is renowned for its armored forces. It's already developing (and using) 3rd-gen tanks (and 3+gen tanks).
The LFR though, probably more quality-over-quantity in terms of their armored units. They use a Merkava-like MBT / IFV (The ArmA 3 Slammer basically) rather than the Abrams. They are also both developing kamikaze drone munitions (think loitering munitions like the gigachadian Shahed) and reconnaissance / strike UAVs.

As for the delivery of the Spaceborne VDV's APCs, probably something similar to how they deploy Martian rovers (though on a larger scale adapted for Erda - Er, Earth)
