Imagine, if you will, a man who possesses no self awareness, who harms and exploits others as easily as breathing, and who pretends to be normal and furriendly in order to approach his victims. And when people are driven to anger against him for committing evil, he acts as if he is being unfairly victimised, pretends it is ridiculous that he is being accused of crimes (which he knows full well he did) and blames them instead for persecuting him, because he has no awareness of himself. His human side is completely separated from the animal within, which makes decisions for him. He then hates and holds an undying grudge against those people who challenged his disregard for human life, and passes that grudge on to his children, in the hopes they will one day be attacked or undone by his descendants.
The only choices available to his victims are to allow him to exploit and destroy them, or to suffer his wrath. Again this hollow man, this animal in the shape of a man, would see no contradiction or insanity here, because he lacks the ability for self awareness, or rather, self awareness discomforts his inner animal, who views instinctually self reflection as a subversion of its desire to consume and dominate and control. Incapable of common ground or reason, always arguing in bad faith, bitter, vindictive and malicious.
Now imagine a whole group of these hollow men, with the same psychology, working in tandem with each other and pretending to be normal, furriendly people. They may have originally been criminals, expelled from early civilisation for their malevolent behavioural traits. Imagine they had an entire religious and legal system, built around the validation of their behaviour. A large group of these animals in human skin would be a threat to the entire human race, a combat organisation of mindless animal impulse dedicated to the extinction of human sentience and virtue. No one would be safe. Lucky for us, nothing like that exists in real life.
