From May 29th until June 3rd challenge yourself to create something everyday and share it with the 'foo! It can be art, writing, music, or game dev.

This will be our last draw-a-thon, so try to make something special and interact with others. After the draw-a-thon there will also be Magma.

Day 4(5)
Missed yesterday but I passed my driver's test!

>>113869
Nice start! I'd suggest focusing on form, breaking down reference imagery into simple shapes to recreate.

>>113907
Thanks!
And sorry lol I mostly lurk and am horrid at remembering names and styles mosta the time
>>114234
Fun animation!

>>113986
Thanks! Wanted to draw more male anthros and realized I don't know that many lol. Maybe that should be a wakeup call. Anywho, that is Wolf o' Donnell, specifically him from Mathew Gafford's "A Fox in Space" short series, I highly suggest anyone who hasn't check out.

Also nice poster, could make for a good site banner. Your really good at visual cohesion.

>>113989
>Random ocs molded into a story
I've seen your characters around a bunch and usually in context that implies a story but have you actually posted about character lore anywhere? Same for other peoples characters, maybe I just missed something

Either way I'm a huge character design fan. Might see if I can find some previous work too

>Self taught
Your super talented to just have been brute forcing it. Wish I had that kinda drive, I think I get discouraged or distracted too easy. Need to work on that

This is pretty good advice, some stuff I've heard here and there but still good to be reinforced with examples I can see

>Furseiski
Added her today and bully fox. Didn't mean to go for the fox theme but happy accident right. Originally wanted to do more foo ocs but didn't think I knew em well enough to do right by em. Again Idk if it's just me but feels like there's some piece of the puzzle I'm missing.
Either way these pages are getting pretty full so probably gonna try to move on and maybe do some more experimental stuff now that I've got the laptop set up too

>>113998
>>114240
I like the semi angular line work you've got going on!
Any tips or recommended tutorials for where to start on color theory? Ik it's probably not as daunting as I'm making it out for myself but I can never figure out where to begin.
>Wolf & Grommit & Loona

>>114027

>>114047

>>114079
I like your method of muscle definition! Though on the viltruminte his right pec should be more centered imo considering the way he's facing

>>114194

Thanks! the line of my colors following the form of the object/shape is kinda my thing, you know. A trait for recognition.

>Any tips or recommended tutorials for where to start on color theory?
Learn what complementary colors are, and that should get you started.
After that, look into some articles that talk about it like this one ---> https://www.colormatters DOT com/color-and-design/basic-color-theory
(just replace the DOT with ".", you know the drill).
And if you're trying to really get into it knee-deep, pick up a book like James Gurney's Color and Light. That should get you far enough :P

This Draw-A-Thon has truly been a wonder to participate in. Thank you all who found the time to contribute, thank you all who appreciate my art,
and thank you anfoo for being there for me in times of isolation.

My take on Femcel, based off the description here >>55304 without using any references in the same vain as the Lyra and Embyr drawings I did. Made it yesterday but didn't post it. The marks on her arms are meant to scars/burn marks, though they may come off as tattoos. She still has the cross necklace, though it may be a bit hard to notice. I thought about giving her a Serbian flag patch, but I wasn't sure how much she'd care for her country of birth.

>>114476

studying is essential and useful, but a little overrated and overly glorified like its sacred, but again, useful and essential. basically, actually drawing normal drawings is always going to be your main course that you learn the most from, and studying is just a thing on the side. study is for when you are struggling with something, or have some particular problem you are inspired to solve, its not supposed to be all the time. study study ppl end up fundy crabs and get appeal mogged by roblox kids, but if you don't study, you should study.

You do more studying in the beginning, and less and less over time. people make it out to be that studying is the main thing, and those people are wrong; I say this, because in the history of my life, my moments of greatest improvement were from regular drawing. it was when i refined my method with regular drawing that made it much more appealing. I found the study to the initial hump (so yes, important), but the refining is where the magic actually happened that made everything good. So i am more big on refinement of what is studied, than on study, because you can get stuck on study without ever refining it and getting good.

using a reference has diminishing returns, if you ever notice that it feels like you aren't learning much from a reference study, it might be time for you try moving on to memorization instead. sounds scary but its not that bad, doesn't take that long, and is quite fun actually. saves a ton of effort once you figure it out.

the trick is to draw like a coward sticking to what you know, its only if you are being too adventurous that makes it impossible to draw from memory. these things have to be built up steadily, learning it piece by piece, angle by angle. Its not like using a reference where you can just do anything, because you have a crutch to fill the gaps in your knowledge. ya can't expect to do something from memory if you never learned that particular angle or that particular part, because memory drawing is all about drawing from what you already know and already have a feel for. so embrace being limited, embrace doing what you already know and love to do, drawing your fav stuff in your comfort zone, because piece by piece study will steadily expand that comfort zone. you actually don't have to force yourself with some miserable bullshit, its actually pretty great. thats what I did, and it worked for me. now i draw without using guidelines or references, and can just wing it for pretty much anything. I still have to stay within my limits, but my limits have expanded to a point where I can draw just about everything I care to be able to draw, and typically with ease no searching for a ref, and its fun and interesting to solve. this never ever would have happened if i stuck to using a reference, it was through memory drawing that got me to refine things and git gud / effortless / appeal. i was basically just a just a normal kind of bad middling artist before.

as for why i am complete ass rn, my brain doesn't work good like it used to. im retardeder now and can't focus good anymore and it sucks. depression permanantly fked up my brain, and i know i complain too often about it but you would too its lame as hell.
my ability to use reason is mostly unchanged tho, tho i do get tired quicker.

>>114919
super cute animation lol

>>114980
good observations, you've given me some great things to think about.
In recent memory i think studying has promoted the most learning from me which is why i idolize it but at the same time that puts pressure on it for me and then makes it harder to actually do for myself. To be fair that was for a completely different skillset so idk if it would apply the same, either way i agree that practice is the real backbone.
Ive been experimenting for awhile and ive come to the conclusion that for whatever reason there are some things i will need to comit to studying if i want to achieve that next level (mostly color theory) because i dont even know the concepts that i dont know yet and until i can start to learn them i will just be shooting in the dark
I know comparing your art to what you see online isnt great, but i see what some people can do that feels like its in a different world to what i might ever be able to do. but Ive been able to improve at things before, ive seen it happen, i can imagine a trajectory that will let me get there someday, i just have to avoid getting complacent cause thats what i usually do once ive got some of it down.
